Vineyard Soil Samples
My roommate is sort of a wine expert, and he's also studying geology at the same time. He acquired some soil samples from a couple of vineyards to use in a project for his class. I thought they were a good subject for a photo, but the reflections in the glass kept making the photos very distracting. I finally put my polarizer on the lens, it helped quite a bit.

Happy New Year!
This is just your ordinary line up of champagne corks. Nothing special...

The Cork Collection

I could've made this setup larger, but I got tired of standing up all the corks in the checkerboard pattern. The cats also wanted to play with the corks.

I took a dozen shots of these corks, and for the most part I had a larger DoF. However, I had to try one at f/2.8 just for the sake of having choices later on. The smaller DoF in this shot gives me the feeling that the corks go on forever.

One of these days I'm going to buy some real lighting equipment. In the mean time, I'm using the base of an old lava lamp. It works.

Believe it or not, I was drinking some wine tonight. This bottle was on the coffee table right next to my wine glass because I was too lazy to get up and walk to the kitchen when my glass was empty. The background is actually my TV about 8' away.
The "believe it or not" was a bit of sarcasm. For those who don't know me, I very rarely go a day without some beer or wine. My roommate works at the Corkscrew Wine Shop in Princeton, so we always have wine in the house.

My second choice photo for today was this one. We have a lot of free time at work, and my friends were playing a board game. I took some shots of the exciting action, and then played with them in Lightroom a little.

Matt Pilsner > 10/4 - I'm out of wine, but I saved all of the corks. I took some other pictures today, and couldn't decide which one to put here. However, this was my top choice. I really love the hint of wine color on the top (bottom) of the cork. One of my other options for today was THIS.
